Repair Cafe's

Published: 06 February 2020

On Saturday 15th February 2020 10-12am, Mold Repair Cafe will be joining thousands of others across the UK in hosting a Big Fix 2020 event at Mold Library (upstairs/bikes outside.) We are taking part in Britain's Biggest Repair Cafe which aims to raise awareness of Repair Cafe's and help promote the work they do.

There are currently 109 repair cafes registered in the UK with more opening every year. The Repair Café movement started over 10 years ago in the Netherlands and there are now over 1000 worldwide.

Repair Cafes don’t just fix items and prevent them from going to waste; they are vital in building community spirit, preventing social isolation for thousands and passing on skills that will otherwise be lost.

The day is being coordinated by Catherine Causley, Reuse Project Officer at Devon County Council. The aim is to promote your local Repair Café, helping them broaden their reach, attracting volunteers and saving more items from ending in the bin.

We would like to invite Flintshire County Council to get involved by supporting your local Repair Cafe and helping us promote The Big Fix 2020 to your residents.

Please could you:

  • Promote us on your social media channels - please repost our facebook event, tweets #TheBigFix2020 and relevant posts.
  • Include the day on any newsletters you send out to residents
  • Promote the day internally to staff, it would be great to have local Councillors in attendance to support this grass roots community event.
